Job SummaryThis position performs company field operations
including manual labor duties necessary to accomplish installation,
repair, construction and maintenance of natural gas distribution
systems. Essential Functions
- Installs, repairs or replaces steel/plastic pipes.
- First Responder assistance in emergency situations.
- Able to locate gas lines.
- Loads and unloads required equipment, tools, and supplies from
trucks.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Education
DescriptionRequires a high school diploma or GED.
ExperienceRequires 0-2 years of relevant experience in
construction, installation and maintenance of gas distribution
systems. Physical Requirements
- Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
of time.
- Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a
minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or
otherwise move objects.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily
or for extended time periods, in a safe manner, and enter/exit
vehicle unassisted.
- Able to use a variety of hand tools and power tools including
picks, shovels, sharp-shooters, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, bolt
cutters, pavement saws, jack hammers, air guns, etc.
- Able to communicate either written and verbal communications
either in person or through technical equipment such as
telephone.
- Able to certify and use personal protective equipment, such as
respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear
and earplugs on a daily basis. Working Conditions
- Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency
Operation Plan (EOP).
- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible
exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
- Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and
occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with
occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise
when at field installation sites.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT
safety sensitive positions.
- Able to work regular hours, with occasional or mandatory
overtime; may be required to work rotating shifts.
- Field environment may also involve being around livestock
